What are the Best Products for Cleaning Tile Grout?

The best way to keep your tile grout clean and bright is to have a professional cleaning at least once a year. We also suggest that you use regular cleaning methods to maintain cleanliness and appearance. Do include scrubbing grout lines by using steam or hot water and then scrub with a brush in a circular motion. Scrubbing grout is best done by applying steam directly to the grout if you have a steamer. If you do not have a steamer, then hot water and scrubbing with a stiff bristle brush will do the trick too.

What Not To Use

The basic elements of grout are cement, water, and sand. Many home cleaning solutions include acidic ingredients such as vinegar, which we do not recommend using, while many store-bought cleaners can contain highly alkaline ingredients such as bleach, which we also advise against using on grout or tile. The ideal solution is water, which has a neutral pH level of 7, mixed with a little bit of dish soap for adequate grout cleaning.

For Stained Grout

If you have grout that still looks dull after a good scrubbing then try a Magic Eraser on the stubborn stain. If the stain is there because of mildew then you will need to use a solution other than bleach, as it does not work effectively on porous surfaces like caulk, drywall, wood, and grout. Alternatively, you can use mildew specific cleaner and try to prohibit the development of mildew by using a bathroom fan during showers or opening windows which will reduce humidity.

Preventing Discoloration of Grout

Beyond using measures to reduce humidity you can also prevent discoloration by applying grout sealant. Grout sealers prevent grime, grit, and mold from infiltrating the grout’s pores. EuroArts offers services for both grout cleaning and sealant application. Find out how we can help you with your tile and grout cleaning needs!
